A recent study published in "Phytotherapy Research" says that a freeze-dried mixture of two mushrooms showed promise for diabetes health care. The fungi Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus cystidiosus extracts might reduce fasting glucose levels.
According to the research, the mushroom powder was taken as a supplement by 88 healthy volunteers and 14 Type 2 diabetics. The results showed fasting blood sugar levels reduced by more than 6 percent after two weeks of use. Diabetics also had improved insulin sensitivity.
More health benefits were evident than just improved blood glucose levels. The mushroom powders also helped improved how carbohydrates were metabolized in the liver. This can not only lead to improved blood sugar levels, but an overall improvement of organ health.
